Too high upload

Post by Lamu » Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:33 am

I have purchased the monster version and have been using it now for a couple of days and I do have a couple of questions and comments.

My settings were:
Increase uploaded traffic: 300
Decrease downloaded traffic: 0
Add 36 -37% of downloaded traffic to uploaded
Make sure that your fake upload increase for single torrent does not exceed 450 to 500
Make sure that your fake upload increase speed for torrent tracker does not esceed 450 to 500

I was downlaoading 4 torrents from a private tracker 3 days ago which had a total size of about 300 gigabytes total. I set up the TRK according to the above rules and started downloading the files. About 24 hours later when I checked my uploads for the day at the private tracker, I noticed that my uploads have increased by about 180 gigabytes and my ratio increased from lower 2 to upper 9. I immediately deleted the torrents and stopped utorrent and TRK. I won't be suprised if I receive an email from the tracker asking for my speedtest proof.

I always download/upload torrent through openvpn. My speed internet based on speedtest.net is around 2.23Mbps downlaod and 9.39Mbps upload. Based on this calculator (http://www.translatorscafe.com/cafe/uni ... -megabyte/), 9.39 megabit = 1201.92 kilobyte. This is interesting, because based on my settings, I had put in a limit of 500 KB/s for upload speed and my tracker should not have shown 180 gigabytes in 24 hours. If truly the 500 KB/s was the limiting factor in terms of upload speed for the combined torrents. In other words, 500 KB in 1 minute = 3000 KB, in 1 hour = 1800000 KB and in 24 hours = 43200000 KB of which is equivalent to 41.2 gigabytes. I was excpecting to see an increase of 41 gigabytes instead of 180 gigabytes.

Under the advanced tab in TRK the statistics were as follows:
Real upload/increased - 229 MB/13.60 GB; saved traffic 13.38 GB
229 MB/23.10 GB; saved traffic 22.88 GB
TRK numbers in the statistics did not match up with what my private tracker was showing in terms of how much I have uploaded in the 24 hours period.

Becasue of this issues, I went ahead and changed my setting as follows:
Increse uploaded traffic: 75
Decrease download traffic: 0
Add 25-30% of downloaded traffic to uploaded
Make sure that your fake upload increase for single torrent does not exceed 850 to 900
Make sure that your fake upload increase speed for torrent tracker does not esceed 850 to 900

Please advise on what you think went wrong and let me know if you think my current settings are more inline with my internet speed or whetehr I should change.

Thanks and sorry for the long question.
